2012 Total Cost of Ownership Awards

While initial price is always a prime issue in any new-vehicle purchase decision, the ultimate "best deal" also entails factoring in a number of other significant elements that can have an equally meaningful impact on long-term out-of-pocket expenses. To help bring those big picture details into sharper focus, Kelley Blue Book, the world's most experienced and trusted automotive pricing organization, calculates and integrates data from eight different categories to come up with real-world bottom-line figure that allows for direct comparisons to be made over a five-year period. This year, we've decided to go one step beyond and formally recognize the best-in-class entries with our inaugural Kelley Blue Book 2012 Total Cost of Ownership Awards.

Best Brand: Kia

Kia-logo-180

The overall brand winner of our Total Cost of Ownership honors is a relative newcomer to the U.S., Kia. The quiet little Korean carmaker has been progressing steadily in quality and sales, and is now seen as a strong bargain when it comes to ownership as well. Such stylish and fun-to-drive Kia offerings as the Optima, Sorento and Soul specialize in delivering the practical blessings of excellent fuel economy and inspired resale value.

Kia Track’ster Concept teased again

The South Korean based automaker Kia has recently released a new teaser image with the Track’ster Concept, ahead of its official debut at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show.

After the car manufacturer has placed the Track’ster Concept into the spotlights for the first time not more than a week ago, Kia has decided to tease the model again, this time with a real image and not just a sketch. According to the carmaker, the Kia Track’ster Concept has been created by the company’s California design studio and as you can see from the teaser image posted above, the model is coming with a ventilated rear bumper, dual exhaust and LED taillights.

More details on the Kia Track’ster are limited for now and the model won’t catch the production line but it’s expected to underpin future vehicles wearing the South Korean badge on them and this is also the company’s vision on the future. There’s no official word on the Kia Trac’ster Concept’s drivetrain and rumors say that the vehicle will be powered by the same Gamma Turbo GDI engine used in the Hyundai Veloster Turbo, so a total of around 200 horsepower are expected. The Kia Track’ster Concept will make its official debut at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show.
